Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Edo State governorship election, has expressed concern over the poverty and hardship faced by the residents and indigenes of Edo State, which he attributes to poor governance.
Speaking on his plans if elected in the upcoming September election, Ighodalo emphasized his commitment to reducing the suffering of the people in Edo State.
“I’m in the race for Edo State Governorship because I want to bring my wealth of corporate experience and management skills to positively impact lives and alleviate the suffering of our people to the barest minimum,” he stated. “Through effective governance, we can reach more people and make meaningful changes in their lives.”
Ighodalo made these remarks on Monday during an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show, where he discussed his vision and motivation for seeking the governorship.
He acknowledged that his journey to the governorship has not been easy but remained confident that his background in both the private and public sectors has given him the necessary tools to address the challenges faced by the citizens of Edo State.
Reflecting on his decision to enter politics, Ighodalo said, “What motivated me? It’s the desire to serve our people. No matter how high you rise in the corporate sector or how many boards you chair, the number of lives you can positively impact is limited.”
He continued, “My experience on the board of the Nigerian Sovereign Wealth Fund (NSIA) demonstrated to me the significant impact that public office can have on the lives of the Nigerian people.”
Ighodalo stressed that his diverse experiences in the private sector and his advisory roles in other sectors position him uniquely to make a difference in Edo State.
“I stepped into this race because I believe I can make a difference. It has been a tough journey, but every day as I travel across the state, I see just how much people are suffering, and I recognize there is so much more that needs to be done,” he added.
As the election approaches, Ighodalo promises to focus on improving governance to better the lives of the people in Edo State if elected.
