OwelekeTV (Politics, News) — All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, has vowed to “rescue” Anambra State from what he described as deepening decline under the current administration.
Speaking at the APC Secretariat in Abuja on Monday after obtaining his N50 million nomination and expression of interest forms, Okonkwo asserted that his candidacy poses a major threat to Governor Charles Soludo, whom he accused of attempting to block his emergence as the party’s flagbearer.
The nomination forms were purchased on his behalf by the Anambra Coalition for Progressive Change, a support group backing his ambition.
“The Votes Are Guaranteed”
Okonkwo, who serves as Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines Company Limited, declared himself a frontrunner in the upcoming November 8 governorship election, emphasizing his strong support base in Anambra Central.
“I am from Anambra Central, and the votes are domiciled in Idemili North. I am the leader of Idemili North and South, so the votes are guaranteed,”
he asserted.
He claimed that since announcing his candidacy, Governor Soludo has been unsettled by his growing popularity.
“The governor is afraid because he knows I am the candidate to beat,”
Okonkwo alleged.
Accuses Soludo of Plotting to Derail His Ambition
He further accused Soludo of orchestrating various schemes to prevent him from securing the APC governorship ticket, claiming that huge sums were being deployed to undermine his candidacy.
“We are aware of the huge amount being thrown around to ensure that I don’t get the ticket. But he (Soludo) knows he can’t square up with me on election day,”
he said.
Pledges to ‘Rescue’ Anambra
Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Okonkwo described the group’s financial backing as an endorsement of his leadership capacity and commitment to governance.
“I am encouraged. If there was any doubt before, I now know these people will match their words with action,”
he said.
“For those who haven’t joined this coalition, this is a wake-up call. We will do justice to rescue Anambra from a man who thinks he knows it all and takes no advice.”
He called on traditional rulers and religious leaders to rally behind his candidacy, assuring that with the APC ticket, victory was certain.
“We may not have full control over the primaries, but with the ticket in our hands, we will secure a landslide victory for APC,”
he declared.
