Solomon Adodo, the National Coordinator of Rising-Up for a United Nigeria (RUN), has clarified that the recommendation for the purchase of new presidential jets came from the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, not from Senate President Godswill Akpabio as previously insinuated.
Adodo made these remarks during a live interview on Radio Nigeria Network news in Abuja on Thursday, refuting claims that Akpabio personally advocated for the jets.
He explained that the House Committee conducted an investigation into the status of the Presidential fleet, subsequently recommending the acquisition of new aircraft.
The Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence later endorsed this recommendation after conducting its own review, citing national security concerns that necessitated the purchase.
Highlighting recent tragic incidents involving world leaders due to aircraft mechanical faults and adverse weather conditions, Adodo underscored the urgency of upgrading the Presidential fleet.
“Instead of attributing blame, we should unite in supporting the acquisition of new aircraft for the Presidential fleet,” Adodo stated emphatically. “If there is a genuine recommendation for new aircraft, no one should coerce the Senate President into neglecting his constitutional responsibilities.”
