The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, and the General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, have been summoned by the Nigeria Police Force to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 5, 2024.
This latest summons comes less than 24 hours after Ajaero responded to a prior police invitation concerning allegations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
The current summons from the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force requires both Ajaero and Ugboaja to address new accusations, including criminal intimidation, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and malicious damage to properties.
This development suggests escalating tensions between the NLC leadership and Nigerian authorities, particularly as the union has been actively opposing government policies and actions viewed as harmful to Nigerian workers and the public.
