The Chief Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State has postponed proceedings regarding the DNA application filed to determine the paternity of Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad’s son.
This decision followed unsuccessful settlement negotiations between the Aloba family and the respondent, Mohbad’s wife Wunmi.
In a statement by Monisola Odumosu, representing the family’s legal team, it was disclosed that the court directed both parties to explore alternative dispute resolution options.
However, these closed-door discussions ended without an agreement due to what was termed as “external factors.”
“Emmanuel Oroko from Hillceetee Partners, representing Joseph Aloba, informed the court that despite earnest efforts, the settlement talks broke down due to external factors,” the statement read. M.K.O Orire Esq., representing the respondent, also confirmed the breakdown in negotiations during the hearing.
Responding to petitions from both legal teams, the presiding Magistrate, His Honour Mrs A.B Olagbegi-Adelabu, adjourned the suit to allow for the hearing of all pending applications related to the DNA test.
The court urged the parties to continue exploring settlement options before the next hearing date.
Earlier, the Aloba family’s legal team had requested the DNA test amid controversy over the paternity of the child born to Mohbad’s wife. The family insisted on the test citing circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
The statement further clarified that no official spokesperson has been designated by the family and disavowed any statements made without clearance from their legal team.
Mohbad passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, with his death stirring discussions on social media platforms.
