Thousands of Atyap youths converged at Zonkwa, the headquarters of the Zangon Kataf Local Government of Kaduna. The youths were protesting the incessant killings in their communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The youths came from various villages and communities that make up the Atyap land.
According to the Atyap National Youth Leader, Francis Kuye, the Tuesday protest became necessary because the state and federal governments have turned blind eyes and deaf ears to the carnage perpetuated by the Fulani and Hausa youths against the Atyap.
He also called on the international community to intervene in order to prevent further ethnic cleansing of Atyap land.
On his part, a religious cleric, Rev. David Bankwat, alleged that the Army and the government are supporting the Fulanis in what he termed genocide that is ongoing in Atyap land.
Bankwat went on to add that the Atyap youths would not fold their hands idly by and watch as their people were killed.
If these killings continue, we shall be forced to go and fish out the perpetrators by ourselves,” he added.
Earlier on, the chairman of Zangon Local Government Area, Mr. Francis Zimbo, called for calm while urging the youths not to take laws into their own hands.
Hon. Zimbo went on to condemn the killings happening in Zangon Kataf, adding that the state and federal governments should do something urgently about it.
