PDP NEC Meeting in Limbo as Leadership Struggles With Internal Disagreements

Uncertainty continues to cloud the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the fate of its much-anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for today, remains undecided amid internal leadership disputes.

The NEC meeting, which had already been postponed once, was expected to address pressing issues within the party. However, conflicting opinions among party leaders have cast doubt over whether it will proceed as planned.

Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, speaking to reporters on Monday, confirmed that the National Caucuswould reconvene at 10 a.m. today, but stopped short of confirming the NEC meeting.

“We have just adjourned our meeting for today to tomorrow at 10 o’clock. The meeting will continue, and a small committee has been set up to provide a report,” Damagum said, refusing to take further questions.

Sources within the PDP told the Daily Sun that Monday’s caucus meeting was fraught with disagreements over the timing of the NEC session. While some leaders pushed for a delay to settle unresolved issues, others insisted the NEC meeting should proceed without further postponement.

To navigate the impasse, a committee was formed and tasked with reviewing the situation and presenting its recommendations to the caucus during today’s meeting.

As of this morning, party stakeholders, observers, and members await clarity on whether the NEC gathering will indeed take place, or be further delayed due to the deepening internal rift.
