Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have thrown their collective weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement was made official during the APC National Summit held at the Presidential Villa on Thursday. Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, made the announcement on behalf of his colleagues, confirming a unanimous agreement among APC governors to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The motion was initiated by Governor Uzodimma and seconded by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani. When the motion was presented to attendees, it was met with resounding approval.
Although President Tinubu is currently serving his first term, political momentum around his 2027 candidacy has been growing, and this endorsement signals a strong early consolidation of support within the ruling party.
In a related move, APC governors and political leaders from Nigeria’s North Central zone also pledged their backing for Tinubu’s re-election during a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday evening. The gathering included five regional APC governors and other influential party figures who emphasized the importance of maintaining continuity in the policies and initiatives introduced under Tinubu’s leadership.
“The motion for the endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term in 2027 was formally moved by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.”
