A popular Nigerian TikToker, Muhammad Kabir, has been convicted and sentenced by a Federal High Court in Kaduna for the abuse and mutilation of Naira banknotes in a video posted on social media.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday. Kabir, who goes by the handle @youngcee0066 on TikTok and Instagram, was arrested on May 13, 2025, in the Tudun Wada area of Kaduna State.
According to the EFCC, Kabir appeared in a widely circulated video where he was seen spraying Naira notes on the ground, stepping on them, and making provocative remarks in Hausa—openly challenging the agency to arrest him at a disclosed location.
He was subsequently arraigned before Justice R.M. Aikawa of the Federal High Court, Kaduna, on a one-count amended charge of unlawfully mutilating the national currency.
Kabir pleaded guilty to the charge. The prosecution counsel, M.U. Gadaka, requested immediate conviction and sentencing, which the court granted.
Justice Aikawa sentenced Kabir to six months in prison with the option of a ₦300,000 fine payable to the Federal Government.
The charge read:
“That you, Muhammad Kabir Sa’ad (a.k.a. @youngcee0066), sometime in 2025 at Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did unlawfully mutilate Naira by stepping on the Naira banknotes while making a social media video and posting same on the internet, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007 and punishable under Section 21(1) of the same Act.”
