OwelekeTV (News) — A devastating accident along the Ayetoro section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Monday resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, while three others sustained injuries.
The incident, which took place around 5:30 a.m., involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number UYY165ZY and a stationary truck bearing the number plate DKA244XC.
Confirming the crash, Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), attributed the accident to excessive speed and driver fatigue, which caused the bus to lose control and ram into the parked truck.
Providing details, she stated,
“A total of 13 persons were involved—10 men and three women. Sadly, nine lost their lives, including six males and three females, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The accident was a result of high speed and fatigue, which led to loss of control before crashing into the stationary truck.”
Emergency responders transported the injured victims to Famobis Hospital in Mowe for urgent medical care, while the deceased were moved to Idera Morgue in Sagamu.
Meanwhile, FRSC Sector Commander Fasakin Akinwumi expressed condolences to the families of the victims and raised concerns about reckless driving.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits and taking the required 15-minute rest break after every four hours of driving to prevent similar tragedies.
