OwelekeTV News — In another plea bargain attempt, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, has appealed to the Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square, to consider his plea bargain application on compassionate grounds.

The convicted billionaire kidnapper told the court he is now reformed and willing to relinquish all his assets, including 14 brand-new trucks, to the Lagos State Government. He proposed that proceeds from the sale be given to his victims as part of the deal.

Evans, who is currently serving his sentence at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison, claimed he had undergone a transformation. He disclosed that he obtained a teaching diploma in economics from Yewa College of Education and now teaches other inmates.

Represented by his lawyer, Etudo Emefo, Evans stated that the Federal Government awarded him a scholarship while in prison, allowing him to further his education.

He also revealed that he was admitted to the National Open University of Nigeria, where he is currently studying Political Science in his second year. Documents supporting his academic progress, including his National Certificate in Education (NCE), project work, and student ID card, were submitted to the court.

Additionally, Evans noted that he completed training in welding and metal fabrication through the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity. Copies of his test results were attached to his application.

During the hearing, state prosecutor Alaba Kuku informed Justice Sherifat Sonaike that the defendant had shown interest in negotiating a plea bargain.

He confirmed receiving an advance copy of the application, which is now under review by the Lagos State Government.

Meanwhile, OwelekeTV recalls that Evans was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offences Court. The judgment followed his conviction for the abduction of Sylvanus Hafia on June 23, 2014, at Kara Street, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.

Evans was arrested on June 10, 2017, at his residence in Magodo, Lagos, after being on the police radar for years due to his involvement in high-profile kidnappings.

His capture was made possible through intelligence gathered from his younger sister.

Following his arrest, OwelekeTV recalls that he was arraigned alongside his accomplices—Uche Amadi, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, Victor Aduba, and Ogechi Uchechukwu—before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Ikeja High Court.

They faced charges of kidnapping and conspiracy, with the male suspects remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Prison, while Uchechukwu was held at the Kirikiri Female Prison.

The case saw multiple amendments, leading to their re-arraignment on October 19, 2017.

With Evans now seeking a plea bargain, the court is expected to rule on his request in the coming proceedings.
