OwelekeTV (Entertainment) — A popular Nigerian singer, Portable and nine of his aides were on Tuesday arraigned before an Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta on a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, and illegal possession of dangerous weapons.
The Zazoo Ze crooner musician pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him. His co-defendants—Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26)—faced similar accusations before Magistrate O. L. Oke.
According to the prosecution, the defendants allegedly engaged in violent conduct by wielding cutlasses and firearms, endangering public safety. They were also accused of actions likely to incite unrest and posing a threat to human life.
Following their arraignment, defense counsel Oluwatoyin Ayodele appealed for bail, assuring the court that his client had shown remorse and had taken lessons from the incident.
Ayodele assured the court that the suspect “is now remorseful and has learnt his lessons.”
Magistrate O L Oke granted ₦2m bail with a surety. He adjourned the case till March 5 for trial.
Incident
According to the statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, Portable was accused of leading a gang of thugs to attack officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development on an enforcement exercise in the Ota area of the State.
The police alleged that Portable’s father was encountered by the officials at a bar in the area and claimed his son was not around.
However, Portable reportedly appeared soon after, armed with a gun and other weapons, and led the attack on the officials.
