OwelekeTV (News) The Department of State Services (DSS) has threatened legal action against Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Channels Television over what it described as “false and malicious reports” concerning its role in the recent crisis at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The controversy erupted after security operatives from the DSS and the Nigeria Police were deployed to the Assembly complex on Monday. Initial media reports suggested that the operatives had “stormed or invaded” the premises, sparking concerns over the unfolding political drama.
However, a letter later surfaced, revealing that the Assembly leadership had formally requested the DSS to bolster security at the complex amid reports that impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was planning a return to office.
In a statement on Tuesday, the DSS condemned the broadcast stations for what it called misleading narratives.
“The reports suggesting that DSS operatives ‘stormed or invaded’ the Lagos State House of Assembly are entirely false and misleading,” the statement read.
The agency warned that it would not hesitate to take legal action against any media organization that spreads misinformation capable of undermining national security or its institutional integrity.
The Lagos Assembly crisis has continued to generate political tension, with security agencies maintaining a heightened presence at the complex.
