OwelekeTV  — A National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) official, Aliyu Imran, was brutally killed by a mob in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State after a high-speed chase ended in a fatal accident.

Imran, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics 1, was on duty with his colleagues in the Gadan-Gayan area when they pursued a suspected drug dealer. The suspect, in an attempt to evade arrest, reversed his vehicle and reportedly ran over several people, killing at least three on the spot.

As tension rose at the scene, Imran stepped out of the patrol vehicle to calm the enraged crowd. However, the mob turned violent, stabbing him multiple times. Despite efforts by a police officer to rush him to a nearby hospital, the attackers stormed the facility, dragged him out, and set him ablaze while he was still alive.

Family Accuses NDLEA of Neglect

Imran’s grieving family has accused the NDLEA of attempting to suppress the incident and failing to offer support or compensation.

“It happened on Friday during an operation at Gadan-Gayan, and the agency is covering it up. If an officer dies in the line of duty, instead of compensating the family, NDLEA tries to sweep it under the rug,”

a source alleged.

The source, who expressed frustration over the agency’s handling of officers’ deaths, added:

“Aliyu stepped out to calm the situation, but the moment a crowd turns hostile, the best thing to do is leave immediately. Unfortunately, he was left behind.

The mob stabbed him repeatedly, and a police officer tried to save him by taking him to a hospital on a bike. But the same mob stormed the hospital, dragged him out, and burnt him alive.”

Revealing the emotional toll of the tragedy, the source added,

“He just got married last December. His wife fainted as they were burying him yesterday.”

NDLEA Denies Negligence, Suspends Commander

Responding to the allegations, NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, dismissed claims that the agency neglected the officer’s family.

“As I speak with you, a delegation from the headquarters—led by the agency’s director of operations and general investigations—is already in Kaduna to meet with the family.

Additionally, another commander had earlier been dispatched by the chairman. So, there’s no truth to the claim that the family has been abandoned,”

Babafemi said.

He further confirmed that the agency had taken disciplinary action.

“To further demonstrate how seriously the agency is taking this matter, the management has suspended the commander involved. This is an ongoing investigation.

The matter is being thoroughly looked into, and the agency remains in close contact with the family. We are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The tragic incident has sparked outrage, with many questioning the safety of NDLEA officers on duty and the agency’s protocols in volatile situations.
