The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a new initiative enabling students to retake their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) papers as early as January and February 2025.

This development marks a departure from the traditional system, which required candidates to wait for the next private exam cycle to address any deficiencies in their results.

He said,

WAEC representative, Mr. Kapi, explained that the registration window for this new opportunity is open until January 8, 2025.

“Students who access their results and find the need to resit one or two papers can register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés. The exams will take place from January 24 to February 15, 2025,”

To support candidates in their preparations, WAEC has promised to fast-track the release of chief examiners’ reports.

“These reports will provide detailed feedback on areas where students may have encountered challenges and offer guidance on how to improve their performance in future examinations,” Kapi added.

He emphasized that WAEC has made significant efforts to inform students and parents about the new programme, utilizing banners, the council’s website, and its results checker platform.

Importantly, the initiative is also open to students whose results have been canceled, provided they are not under a ban for malpractice.

“For now, the exams will be conducted in regional capitals due to the limited number of candidates. We encourage all eligible students to complete their registration by January 8 to take advantage of this opportunity,”

WAEC expressed optimism that the early resit option will enable candidates to quickly address their academic shortcomings, improve their grades, and meet admission requirements for the next academic cycle. This initiative is expected to help students avoid year-long delays in their educational progress.
