Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi yesterday visited Minna, the Niger State capital, for engagements with two prominent leaders in the town and to reaffirm his commitment to nation-building and unity.
In separate tweets on his X account, Obi said he first visited former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, at his residence. Describing Babangida as a “father figure, elder statesman, and leader,” Obi said the meeting gave him an opportunity to wish the former military leader a happy New Year and discuss pressing national issues.
“General Babangida’s wisdom and perspectives remain very important. I always deeply appreciate the chance to visit him and listen to his invaluable advice and words of wisdom,” Obi said.
Reiterating his vision for national progress, he added: “A new Nigeria is possible!”
The former Anambra State governor said he also visited erstwhile Niger State governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, to sympathise with him on the recent deaths of his mother and younger sister.
“I extended my heartfelt condolences and emphasised the importance of standing together during challenging times,” Obi wrote.
The former governor also said he and his hosts discussed nation-building, among other topical issues.
“Our discussion focused on the critical task of nation-building and the shared responsibility we all hold in shaping a brighter future for our country.”
Obi said he also visited former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja to wrap up his engagements.
The former governor expressed appreciation for Jonathan’s “patriotic approach to national issues”.
He wrote: “Ex-President Jonathan’s patriotic approach to national issues remains admirable. I appreciate his kind advice and guidance, and I wish him and his family a happy and productive year ahead.”
