Ghana’s Election Is Nigeria’s Blueprint For Electoral Process – Fayemi

Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti State, has praised Ghana’s 2024 presidential election, calling it a model for political leaders across Africa. He highlighted the peaceful and transparent conduct of the election, emphasizing that Ghana’s electoral process should serve as a blueprint.

Fayemi congratulated John Mahama, the president-elect and candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for his victory. He also commended Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice-president and candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his dignified concession, noting that such actions exemplify the best of African political leadership.

The former governor acknowledged that Ghana’s election results, though not yet final, showed Mahama on course for a win. He emphasized that Bawumia’s acceptance of the outcome in the spirit of unity and peace demonstrated maturity and respect for democratic principles.

Fayemi underscored that Ghana has become a symbol of democracy in Africa, thanks to the people’s will being respected and institutions functioning independently. He urged other African nations, including Nigeria, to learn from Ghana’s example and prioritize credible, peaceful elections that reflect the people’s choices.

“Ghana’s example proves that democracy can thrive in Africa when political leaders place the nation’s interest above personal ambition,” Fayemi stated. “I urge all political actors to emulate the conduct of both Mahama and Bawumia, who have strengthened their country’s democratic culture and positioned Ghana as a beacon of hope for the continent.”
