Senate President Godswill Akpabio visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at his Asokoro residence in Abuja on Wednesday.
Details of their discussions have not yet been made public.
This meeting comes as tensions continue within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State. Governors elected on the party’s platform have reaffirmed their support for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as the legitimate leader of the party in the state.
Wike, who previously served as Rivers State Governor, had issued a stern warning to PDP governors to stay out of the state’s affairs, threatening retaliation if they interfered.
In response, PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed, emphasized that the governors stand firm in their backing of Fubara. During a meeting with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), Mohammed noted that efforts are underway to reconcile Wike and Fubara.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mohammed reiterated that Fubara, as the sitting governor, should control the party structure in Rivers State. He confirmed that the NWC fully supports the forum’s decision to recognize Fubara as the leader of the PDP in the state.
