Edo Guber: Obaseki Confirms Readiness to Sign Peace Accord

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, announced on Tuesday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, will sign the Peace Accord for the upcoming election.

The decision was made after a closed-door meeting with the party’s caucus.

Previously, Obaseki and the state’s PDP chairman, Anthony Aziegbemi, had considered boycotting Saturday’s election. However, they decided to move forward after receiving assurances from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, regarding a fair election process.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Obaseki expressed confidence in the upcoming election, stating:

“Following our meeting, we thank the Police IG and INEC Chairman for their assurances of ensuring a level playing field for all participants in the election.”

The governor added that the party is optimistic about its chances and hopes that detained party members in Abuja will be released or granted bail soon. With this, he confirmed their willingness to sign the Peace Accord.
