The Department of State Services (DSS) has returned the passport of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, after it was confiscated during his arrest and brief detention in Abuja on Monday.
Ajaero was apprehended at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while en route to the United Kingdom for the Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference.
His phones and passport were seized during his detention, which lasted several hours before he was granted administrative bail.
The NLC criticized the DSS for arresting Ajaero without a warrant, raising concerns over the circumstances of his detention.
According to sources, the DSS was eventually pressured to return Ajaero’s passport and phones. His lawyer, Marshal Abubakar of Femi Falana’s Chambers, confirmed the passport’s release on Tuesday morning.
