The Labour Party (LP) faction under the leadership of National Chairman Julius Abure has announced that there will be no automatic tickets for Peter Obi or Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 presidential and gubernatorial elections.
During a press briefing held on Monday, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) confirmed that the nominations for these positions, and all other party offices, will be open to all contenders.
Responding to recent moves by Governor Otti to establish a caretaker committee, Abure stated that no governor, regardless of their influence, can dissolve the party’s leadership or harass its officials.
He emphasized that the leadership team, elected at the party’s convention on March 27, 2024, will defend its mandate.
This development follows a stakeholders meeting in Umuahia last Wednesday, where Senator Esther Nenadi Usman was appointed Chair of a 29-member caretaker committee.
The committee, which includes Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Secretary, is expected to complete its duties within 90 days.
