The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to appear before its disciplinary committee over allegations of anti-party activities.
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, announced on Monday that Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, has been issued a letter requesting his presence before the party’s disciplinary body.
Abdullahi, speaking in an interview with Channels TV, criticized Wike’s recent statement where he threatened to “put fire in their states” in reference to PDP governors. Abdullahi described the comment as unacceptable and unbecoming of a senior party member.
“Wike should be able to manage his words carefully; that was a very disappointing remark. We weren’t expecting him to say that, and we are not with him on that, to be honest with you,” Abdullahi stated.
The PDP’s decision to summon Wike comes just hours after he publicly defended his role in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, a move that has sparked controversy and criticism within his party.
Wike, the only PDP member serving in Tinubu’s cabinet, dismissed criticisms of his appointment, telling those unhappy with his decision to “go and hug the transformer.”
Wike made these remarks during the PDP Congress in Rivers State, where he reiterated his satisfaction with his current position despite the backlash from his party members.
The PDP’s disciplinary committee is expected to address these issues and determine whether Wike’s actions constitute a breach of party discipline.
