Mohbad’s Family Urges Suspension of First Death Anniversary Celebrations

The family of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has expressed opposition to plans for marking the first anniversary of his death.

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, under circumstances that remain unresolved.

In a statement signed by a member of the family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, the Aloba family urged individuals and organizations intending to commemorate Mohbad’s death anniversary to suspend such plans. The family emphasized their preference to mourn in peace, avoiding the reopening of old wounds.

The family also expressed concerns that some may seek to use Mohbad’s memory for commercial gain.

The statement read, “It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organizations have been planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas.

“It is no longer news that some individuals and organizations have been planning to carry out events to commemorate the late singer’s death.

“We appeal to such persons and organizations to seek proper approval from the family before proceeding with such plans. The Aloba family would not wish the goodwill of their illustrious son to be employed for commercial purposes.”
