The National Secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, has vehemently denied recent reports claiming that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) approved changes to the party’s logo, flag, and constitution.
He labeled these reports as futile attempts orchestrated by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasia Movement to seize control of the NNPP with alleged aid from INEC officials.
Oginni emphasized that any effort by Kwankwaso to take over the NNPP is destined to fail. He underscored the NNPP’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and expressed confidence in the judiciary’s ability to address the matter justly.
The NNPP, established 22 years ago by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, stands firm on its principles and condemns what it perceives as INEC’s complicity under the leadership of Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu.
Oginni criticized INEC’s approval of a group purporting to represent the NNPP, challenging both Prof. Yakubu and Kwankwaso to establish a new political entity under the Kwankwasia name and logo, rather than appropriating NNPP’s intellectual property.
“We are proud to affirm that the New Nigeria People’s Party, founded by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, abides by the law,” Oginni stated firmly.
He urged NNPP members and supporters of democracy to remain calm amidst the unfolding events, expressing optimism that the judiciary would swiftly and fairly resolve the issue.
“This act of impunity by INEC, sanctioned under Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu’s watch, is reprehensible. The endorsement of a Kwankwasia group masquerading as NNPP is unacceptable,” Oginni asserted.
He concluded by calling for unity among NNPP members and assured that the party would pursue legal avenues to uphold its integrity and rights.
