The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Community Court of Justice has delivered a verdict against the Nigerian government for human rights abuses during the October 2020 #EndSARS protests.
The court specifically cited the government’s use of force at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, stating it violated several international human rights standards, including articles 1, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 11 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
According to Cable News, the court has mandated the Nigerian government to compensate each named victim in the lawsuit with N2 million.
