The Kaduna State governorship election petition Tribunal resumes hearing today, Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

Earlier on Tuesday, a witness, Bonet Gwaza, appeared before the court and presented the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) report for elections held across the 23 local government areas in the state.

Among other exhibits presented to the court is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) form EC40G for the Igabi West constituency.

Gwaza, who is said to be a system analyst working with the INEC, also presented to Justice Victor Oviawie-led panel the voters’ register for Kauru, Lere, Zaria and Igabi local government areas.

However, the presentation of the exhibits to the tribunal by the representative of INEC followed the subpoena application filed by the legal team of the 1st and 2nd petitioners, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and its governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru.

Having received submissions from those concerned, the court subsequently adjourned the hearing to today for the continuation of cross-examination of the witness.

Politicians Responsible For Banditry In Kaduna – State CAN Chairman
Meanwhile, Kaduna State chapter chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev John Joseph Hayab, has asserted that some politicians were indirectly responsible for the continued banditry activities in the state.

According to him, political officeholders have caused disunity among citizens of the state and the country at large.

Hayab said this on Friday at a one-day roundtable on religion and politics in Kaduna.

The cleric maintained that politicians were fomenting division in society by poisoning the minds of peace-loving people with bigotry.

He appealed to the people to preach peace and love among them irrespective of their region and background.

“I vividly recalled that things were not like this before. There is the need to recover our Kaduna State, where everyone cares for the other irrespective of any difference,” he said.

Hayab added: “We should stop treating one another as if we are not human beings. We should love humanity, and we should preach the message of love among our children because what binds us together is bigger than what divides us.”

The cleric called on Governor Uba Sani to redouble his efforts to restore peace and unity in the state.
