Six pregnant girls were reportedly saved after Rivers State Police Command officers dismantled a rumored baby factory close to Choba in the state’s Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
At a press conference in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the state’s commissioner of police, Polycarp Emeka, revealed this information to the media.
Emeka claimed that the accomplishment was made possible by reliable information that resulted in the arrest of the main suspect, Akudo Ozoroh, during a raid on the alleged child trafficking home.
The 39-year-old suspect and her accomplice were paraded before the media at the state police headquarters, where the commissioner claimed that during questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime.
He further stated that the main suspect and her accomplice, a female whose identity was withheld, were both taken into custody.
He said,
“Eagle-eyed operatives of the Rivers State Police Command, in furtherance of an investigation, on May 27, 2023, arrested one Akudo Ozoroh, 39, the alleged owner of a child trafficking centre.
“Six pregnant girls were rescued. Upon interrogation, Akudo Ozoroh confessed to the crime.
“The suspect claimed that she had been in the business for a long time and had succeeded in selling many children, which she couldn’t give a vivid account of.
“The prime suspect and her accomplice are currently in custody, and further investigation is in top gear for the possible arrest of other suspects in connection with the crime.”
