In a bid to propel the nation towards progress, prosperity, and inclusivity, the 10th House of Representatives has recently divulged its comprehensive six-point legislative agenda for the 10th Assembly. Led by Rep. Julius Ihonvbere, who also chairs the Ad-hoc Committee on Legislative Agenda, the unveiled roadmap encompasses vital areas such as economic empowerment and diversification, infrastructure development, education, human capital development, healthcare accessibility for all, transparent governance, accountability, and ensuring security and safety of citizens and property.

Foremost among the House’s objectives is the pursuit of economic empowerment and diversification, acknowledging Nigeria’s over-reliance on oil exports and the vulnerability it poses to global oil price fluctuations. To counter this risk and establish a robust and sustainable economy, the House intends to incentivize investments in non-oil sectors, with particular emphasis on agriculture, technology, and renewable energy.

“In the agriculture sector, we will push for legislation to modernize farming practices, improve farmers’ access to credit, and support agricultural research and development,” stated Rep. Ihonvbere. Additionally, the House aims to explore opportunities in agro-processing to enhance the value of the nation’s agricultural produce and create more employment opportunities.

Turning towards technology and innovation, the House aspires to create an environment that fosters start-ups, nurtures innovation hubs, and incentivizes research and development. This visionary approach aims to position Nigeria as a technology powerhouse, harnessing the potential of its young and dynamic population to drive innovation and spearhead digital transformation.

Moreover, the legislative agenda highlights the need to prioritize renewable energy projects, reducing the country’s carbon footprint, ensuring energy security, and generating employment opportunities in the renewable energy sector. Embracing renewable energy not only protects the environment but also presents new investment avenues.

“Our ultimate objectives encompass job creation, higher foreign exchange earnings, new skill development, export diversification, and the consolidation of our technological foundations,” elaborated Rep. Ihonvbere.

This ambitious legislative agenda was formulated in consultation with various stakeholders, including the Nigerians Union of Teachers, Nigerian Metallurgical Society, and the Federal Ministry of Health. With the agenda serving as the focal point of the 10th Assembly’s operations, the House of Representatives aims to make significant strides towards a more robust and inclusive future for the nation.
