In response to sharp increases in transportation costs, the Kwara state government has announced a temporary palliative measure to bring some ease to workers by reducing work days from five to three per week.
The move is intended to alleviate some of the current economic pressures workers face.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Murtala Atoyebi, conveyed the decision in a statement from Ilorin.
The State Head of Service, Mrs. Susan Oluwole, has instructed all heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to devise alternating work schedules for each of their employees.
Oluwole explained that this action is a temporary measure to lessen the burden on public workers in the state.
It’s part of a broader strategy to mitigate the hardship that the recent removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government has inflicted on state workers.
She also said that it was part of measures to relieve the state workers of the hardship being experienced as a result of the fuel subsidy removal announced by the Federal Government.
She, however, warned the workers not to abuse the governor’s generosity, stressing that the regular monitoring of MDAs by her office would be intensified to ensure strict compliance.
