As part of efforts to make life better for flood victims in the state, Edo State Government has continued the distribution of relief materials to flood victims in Etsako East, Etsako Central, Owan West and Esan South East local government areas of the State.
Speaking during the distributing, the Managing Director of the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA), Mrs. Helen I. Obayuwana, commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for his kind gesture towards flood victims in the State, adding that the second phase of the distribution is a confirmation of the Governor’s unwavering commitment to ameliorating the plight of the victims.
Previously, food items and other relief materials were distributed by Edo State Government, and with the support of the Presidential Committee on Flood, more relief materials have now been distributed by EDOSEMA, which include maize, mattresses, roofing sheets, mats, sugar and soaps.
Mrs. Obayuwana, who led the EDOSEMA team in distributing the relief materials to representatives of the affected local government areas in Benin City, emphasized that the Governor has the people at heart, and has ensured adequate supply of relief materials to enable them bounce back to their daily lives.
Receiving the relief materials, were representatives from the four affected LGAs; Hon. Christopher Ojimiah (Esan South East), Ahmed Sule (Etsako East), Mr. Izedonmi Humphrey (Owan West) and Mogadore Ignatius (Etsako Central), who appreciated Governor Obaseki for his consistent support since the flood disaster in their localities. They also expressed gratitude to donor agencies and stakeholders for their supports.
The flood outbreak which occurred last year due to the opening of the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon, made many residents in Nigeria, including Edo State, homeless, subjecting them to poor living conditions. However, the State Government responded swiftly, and since then, has shown concern for the wellbeing of the flood victims through regular supply of relief material to ameliorate sufferings in the areas.
