Allegedly, two individuals, including a person named Gafar Yusuf, were killed in the Idioro area of Mushin, Lagos State by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The incident occurred when the NDLEA operatives conducted a raid on a drug den in the community at around 10 pm on Wednesday night. During the raid, the operatives started shooting indiscriminately to frighten potential troublemakers and protect their operation.
Tragically, the stray bullets from their indiscriminate shooting hit Gafar Yusuf in the head and another unidentified person in the chest, resulting in their immediate deaths. A resident named Olasunkanmi expressed concern and questioned why the NDLEA operatives were shooting recklessly in a residential area. He acknowledged that the NDLEA had a legitimate job to do in combating drug-related activities but criticized their approach, which led to the loss of innocent lives.
According to another resident named Lukmon, Gafar Yusuf’s mother, Olaide, informed him about the incident and was devastated by the loss of her son. He further stated that the community was tired of the NDLEA’s actions in their neighborhood and found it unacceptable that the operatives resorted to careless shooting instead of employing more targeted and planned approaches to arrest the suspects.
The raid created panic and tension in the area, with residents running for safety. The tragic scene was filled with sorrow as people surrounded the lifeless bodies of the victims, who lay on the road with bloodstains visible, fueling anger among the community members.
At the time of reporting, attempts to reach the NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, for a statement on the incident were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or messages.
