At least over 40 buildings had been affected at the close of Friday after the demolition exercise in Gbagyi Villa in the Sabon Tasha area of Chikun LGA of Kaduna State.
About a dozen people, mostly youths, were also reportedly shot by the armed security operatives for attempting to resist the demolition; some of them were at the point of death before being taken to the nearest clinics.
Our correspondent, who was a star witness, reported that most of the buildings affected include churches, residents, schools, and business properties erected close to the wall of the fence of Kaduna Polytechnic, on the Gbagyi Villa side of the community.
A building identified as the residence of a retired army colonel and a few others were skipped and left untouched during the exercise on Friday.
Eyewitness sources and residents of the community confirmed to our reporter that three security operatives in the company of KASUPDA, were brutally shot seriously by some aggrieved youths in the community in an ambush.
Residents of the community were seen fleeing out of the community with their domestic properties in vehicles, while some have had their own houses demolished with their properties inside the buildings.
Some of the youth shot are said to be at the point of death following the level of bullet injuries sustained during the incident with security in the company of KASUPDA.
Gunshots and tear gas were said to have continued to rent the air till the end of the exercise, making it difficult to get close to the agency staff until the end of the demolition.
At the time of filling out this report, the community is still in a state of unrest, with residents running for their lives due to the presence of armed military men to maintain law and order and avoid escalation.
Although the armed military men told journalists that they were not there on any official engagement to comment on the demolition,
Sources said they were there to protect buildings belonging to senior military officers, some of which have already been affected.
The community leaders contacted refused to speak to journalists for fear of being removed, even as the police spokesman of Kaduna state command, Muhhamed Jalige, could not pick up calls or respond to SMS sent to him.
